What can a person read?

Many times we come across some books, some articles which change the way we believe in things, which makes us feel that everything the write has written is correct. Sometimes they are so convincing that we just change our whole life because of them. A lot of writers have had this convincing power.
Is there some way of knowing what is correct and what is not? Today I was reading this article on Maoists
http://radicalnotes.com/journal/2009/11/19/war-against-the-maoists-but-who-are-they-and-what-do-they-want/

This gives a totally different picture of maoism, which off course appears very convincing. Well I don't want to discuss about maoism here because I don't really know if author of this article is correct, but this definitely sparks a question into my mind , what if this article consists of facts. What is our government is actually just trying to exploit people there.
It becomes so difficult to figure out what to believe and what not to.
