Howard Roark

Well we can say that he was the hero of FountainHead by Ayn Rand. But the way his character has been described will suggest that Howard Roark is not an individual. He represents objectivism in human form.
In early childhood he does a lot of jobs. From that time only he had decided to be an architect. It seems in novel. He was born to be an architect.
He represents his new ideals about buildings and he is fired from Stanton. He works with Henory Cameron with very low wages for the sake of his ideals and individualism. After Cameron retires he has to struggle again. He has to face a lot of people who want to make him compromise his work. But he never does so. In one project he is asked to make a very small change. That time he was near the end of his career. He refuses that time also. People say "How can you be so selfishness less. Your career might end if you refuse this job." He collects his drawings and says "This is the most selfish thing you have every seen in your life." He calls himself to be selfish. He says "No body has right to take a single minute of my life and work."
Well the most important thing I liked in his character was that he never felt worried or happy. He was fired from school. He didn't feel worried. He almost reached end of his career and worked on granite quarries. But still he didnt compromise.
He is sued in court but he just shows 10 paintings of Stoppard temple and says "defense rests".
In the end whole society is against him but still he is calm.
He wins against all. He believes in himself and his work. He believes his own integrity. And thats what we can learn from Roark.
I myself really like this Rand for creating such a great character.

FountainHead

1-2 weeks ago a though came to my mind. The thought was of reading FountainHead by Ayn Rand. Well this novel is said to be the best Rand novel.
Sometimes I do somethings only for the sake of doing them. i watched three parts of GodFather movie just for the sake of watching it. When we do something only for the sake of doing it. We feel nothing. We neither feel any joy nor we regret doing it.
I am not a great fan of Ayn Rand. I had read one more novel of Rand named "we the living". Honestly I didnt like that novel that time much but yes I found one character in that novel who cant be compared with anyone. His name was Andrei Taganov and I read that whole novel for sake of him. Since that time I have been trying to find someone who can be comparable to him in anyway. I decided to read fountainhead with expectation that I shall find one more character who can be said to be incomparable. Who can be unique of his own kind.
Well so I started reading fountainhead.
This was story about struggle of an architect named Howard Roark. This book shows how the great person are laughed at by out society. Genius are punished and fools are rewarded. Howard Roark who was a man of his own ideals. He used to call it selfishness. In this book selfishness has been defined in a very different way. He rejects clients at the most crucial period of his career but does not leave his own ideals.
This books shows that Third rate architects like Peter Keating are rewarded and genius like Howard Roark and Steven Mellory are laughed at.
The society never accepts changes. Every innovation is not accepted by society easily. Even the people like Ellsworth Toohy who understood his work completely oppose him. Finally he fights the whole world and proves himself to them. He proves that he is the best architect.
